SBMC Bargaining Updates

File under: All News

On Monday, April 7, 2008, the New Jersey State Senate passed the Paid Family Leave legislation which establishes a family leave insurance fund that will be financed through worker payroll deductions similar to that of deductions for unemployment.  This legislation will enable workers to take the time needed to attend to their familial obligations while providing financial relief in doing so.

This legislation is still pending Governor Corzine's signature before it takes effect.  NJNU will provide more details on this breakthrough legislation as it develops.

The tentative agreement between the New Jersey Nurses Union and Kimball Medical Center/Saint Barnabas Behavioral Health Center was ratified by an overwhelming majority at the ratification meeting held Monday, May 7, 2007.   Congratulations to our members at KMC/SBBH for all of their hard work and dedication throughout the arduous process of bargaining a successor agreement.

A special thanks to the NJNU Bargaining Committee members who dedicated many long hours, (much of it being without pay) to ensuring that every member would not only receive a decent wage increase, as well as improve the working conditions for every member within the bargaining unit.

Should you have any questions concerning the terms of the new collective bargaining agreement, please do not hesitate to either contact your local delegate or click here

The NJNU Bargaining Committee successfully negotiated a collective bargaining agreement that addresses our members’ critical concerns – staffing, wages, and job security.  The highlights are as follows:

1.  Duration:  May 1, 2007 through April 30, 2009.

2.  Union Bulletin Boards:  The Employer has agreed to provide the Union with unlocked bulletin boards on most of the units throughout the Medical Center.
