The New Jersey Nurses Union (NJNU) was created by working nurses at St. Barnabas Medical Center who desired strong representation in all areas of professional concern. Since its inception in 1991, NJNU has proven effective in negotiating its contracts and making certain that the terms and conditions or the contracts are upheld. 12-18-09 NEGOTIATION UPDATE To our members at KMC/SBBHC, we want to inform you that NJNU has notified the Hospital that NJNU seeks mediation to resolve these negotiations. This is for several reasons. One is they do not want to give our per diem nurses any raise at all during this contract. They work by our side, and should receive at least whatever raise the full time and part time nurses get. File under: Bargaining
******************************************************************** NJNU files Unfair Labor Practice for the No Smoking Policy at SBMC ******************************************************************** As you probably know now, SBMC has just issued a new no-smoking policy which, in a major departure from the past years, completely forbids smoking anywhere on their property, including the parking lot, the lawns, everything. And they did this without negotiating with the Union at all. So there you have it: why bother negotiating with the Union; just impose the policy. File under: Nurses Notes

12-09-09 KMC/SBBHC BARGAINING UPDATE On Tuesday, December 8, 2009, your KMC/SBBHC negotiating team met with management to try to work out a final agreement. As you know from our previous Updates, the issues are primarily economic. Several wage proposals were made by the St. Barnabas team and after 8 hours, the parties agreed to end the session so that management could run the numbers on our last proposal. We are sincerely trying, and we hope, to be able to come to you before the holidays with an agreement that is satisfactory to you. File under: Bargaining
