NJNU and KMC/SBBH met for another bargaining session on April 10, 2007 and April 11, 2007. The following issues were discussed:
Staffing
- NJNU continues to focus on the various staffing problems that face our facilities. We feel strongly that it would be in the best interest of all parties involved to implement a joint labor/management committee that would have the primary focus of addressing staffing issues in addition to the Nurse Practice Council.
- We discussed the current method used when members are required to rotate their shifts.
Non-Nursing Duties
- NJNU addressed the issue of our members being required to do non-nursing duties which affects their ability to focus primarily on the care of their patients.
Work Assignments
- Management advised the NJNU Bargaining Committee that their intent to provide the Med/Surg nurses with telemetry training as opposed to telemetry certification, however they would support any nurse that decided to become telemetry certified.
On-Call
- NJNU reached a tentative agreement with management concerning when our members are entitled to be compensated according to the on-call provisions as well as when shift differentials are applicable.
FMLA
- NJNU maintains the position that there must be clear and concise guidelines concerning the FMLA policy.
PTO
- NJNU is seeking to implement a clear policy regarding holidays, as well as address the current PTO system.
NJNU will continue to meet with KMC/SBBH in an attempt to work towards a solution to these issues. Should you require additional assistance, please feel free to contact your local delegate.
