The KMC/SBBH contract expiration has been extended until after Labor day in order to allow the Union to obtain realistic data from the Hospital as to what they intended to do regarding our Pension and Medical Plans next year.
As you know, the two main economic issues that remain open are the extent of the medical insurance cost increses that we know will be imposed on us, as well as possible reductions in our pension benefits. To continue to negotiate about these two very important issues without either side really knowing what might happen over the next year or two was fruitless and pointless. The hospital said that it shoud be able to give us a better idea within about two weeks (by the end of July) of what will they really expect will happen to the medical and pension plans. That deadline has passed and the report is not completed. While this is frustrating, we are hopeful that when we return to the table in September our session will be more productive with accurate information.
Please remain united and strong during this time. Your negotiating team is working to get you the best contract we can. We will notify you as to details about a meeting and together, as a united Union, we will decide what to do.
