After ten sessions of negotiations between NJNU and the Hospital, no agreement has been reached and the contract has been extended to June 5, 2009. Progress has been made in the areas of weekend scheduling,pulling,holiday, and layoff language. And while the Hospital states that they give our nurses their 2 non-guaranteed breaks, this is simply not the case. Yes, breaks are assigned and written on paper, but this is not proof that the breaks are indeed taken. The Hospital insists that the nurses get their breaks consistantly! So please call for your breaks!

As far as our economic proposals, the Union has been very responsible to the Hospital's financial situation. We have proposed to forego a wage increase in lieu of no increases in the cost of our health benefits and no decrease in any contrbutions to our pension benefits. We have also asked for a wage reopener in one year.

At this time no additional sessions for negotiaitons have been scheduled. The Union is hopeful that the Hospital will be willing to negotiate a fair and equitable contract. The community has been very supportive and we need to continue to reach out to them.

The Union and our staff rep from CWA has met with your local, state, and federal elected officials and have updated them on our issues. We also personally handed them letters our nurses took the time to write with their own concerns about our contract.

 We will keep you updated as we near the expiration of the contract. We will also be calling for emergent meeting if necessary, so please watch for postings and announcements.

We ask that you continue to support your bargaining team by wearing “BLUE” on Wednesdays and participating in any mobilization activities they call upon you to do.
